In 2008 I traveled to northern Uganda for my first of many medical mission trips. I was mesmerized by the beauty of the people and the country. I felt an overwhelming appreciation for Ugandan’s sense of community and social responsibility. I observed a profound and rich awareness each individual had for one another. The people welcomed me effortlessly and integrated me into their lives.

It was on this trip I met Simon Menya who was my translator and cultural mentor. Over the course of seven years and numerous trips to Uganda, we determined how we can help address the needs of the Ugandan people, collaborated on gathering resources, and brought aid. As an experienced Family Nurse Practitioner it was a natural progression for me to orient my assistance towards providing medical care – at first through mobile clinics in local villages—earning the nickname Dr. Sue. Then, establishing more sustainable care through a permanent health center/hospital in Jan. 2014. The facility is equipped with solar power, a water well, and has plans to grow a maternity care unit in the near future.

After establishing health outreach efforts, education initiatives quickly followed. Following the devastating 20 year war, Ugandans had a renewed optimism for education. Lift Up Uganda wanted to cultivate opportunities that supported their aspirations. The Ugandan people, along with Simon, myself, and many others were brimming with ideas, innovation, and enthusiasm. The birth of Lift Up Uganda came into fruition.

We hope you will join us to support and assist Ugandans in their future! Contact us to find out how YOU can help. Additionally, you can show your support through donations.

Thank you!
